At any moment, what makes me happy is to have just finished a great book, have just started another one, and have a prospect in my future. Simple pleasures are the best. So where am I at this moment?
Tamera Alexander’s “A Note Yet Unsung”. I loved this book, as I do all of Ms. Alexander’s lovely historicals. The third in her Belmont mansion series, this one celebrates the rich musical history of “Music City”. What I really love about Tamera? Just when you think you know where the story is going, and you can predict what’s next- she throws your for a loop. Or in this case, takes you for a train ride. The transition from classical European music to backwoods bluegrass is jarring, but perfect for the story. I only wish this book had a soundtrack. Delightful, inspirational, romantic! I think I’m being swept away again. I just may have to re-read this one.
Present: Rachel Hauck’s “A Royal Christmas Wedding”. My first “summer read”. I love waiting until the temperatures are warming up to dive into a good Christmas book. After my first experiences with Rachel’s Royal Wedding books, this is a perfect choice. I have been a sucker for a handsome prince since I watched Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella on television as a child. Rachel pairs a strong, independent Southern girl with a handsome, tradition bound European prince, and the stage is set. I love how the pull of both sides of the ocean cause conflict, but make the couple stronger. You will see this same theme when I finally have a title of my own to promote here. Anyway, I can’t wait to read Avery and Colin’s story. A great way to cool off during a hot summer- well, maybe. It is a romance after all.
Future: “Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate. I net this author on Facebook. She does a precious feature with her adorable dog named Huckleberry. I can’t wait to see his latest “report”. After enjoying that diversion, I knew I would love her fiction, so I finally read “The Prayer Box”. Okay, now I’m hooked. Lisa has amazing depth and honesty in her writing. And if the characters in this one are like the one I’ve read, I will be searching for them on trips to Wal-Mart so that I can get to know them better. They are that real!
This book is getting quite the buzz right now! Lisa is at the moment on a whirlwind book tour, and Huckleberry is waiting not so patiently for her return. She has even been noticed in People Magazine. I am waiting for Oprah to get on board! The book deals with a topic that could be ripped from today’s headlines, but is a true tale from the past about child abduction, and the heartache it causes families. I know it will be fantastic. Excuse me, I need to go make a purchase now so that this book can officially be on my TBR pile.
Happy Reading Inksper fans!
